The International Forum for Sustainable Futures
Shringara
Global Action · Local Impact
A Platform. A
Connective Tissue.
A Standing Invitation.
Shringara, in the old vocabulary of Sanskrit aesthetics, was never a simple word. It names beauty — but a particular kind: the beauty that arises when disparate things are brought into harmony. Ornamentation as relation, not decoration. The sense that something becomes whole, becomes alive, only in its coming-together.
We have borrowed that word deliberately, and we mean to earn it.
Shringara — The International Forum for Sustainable Futures — begins from a simple observation: the future is not a place we arrive at. It is something assembled, continuously, out of the ideas we allow into conversation with one another, the knowledge we choose to share rather than hoard, and the small, local acts that either remain isolated or find their way into something larger.
Most institutions are built to hold a single piece of this — a policy shop, a youth network, a research centre, a grassroots collective. Few are built to hold the movement between these pieces. Shringara is an attempt to build precisely that.
We think of it as a platform in the oldest sense — a place to stand, and from which to be seen. A young person encountering an unfamiliar issue for the first time should be able to begin here. A researcher whose insight rarely leaves the seminar room should find, through Shringara, an audience beyond it. A practitioner working a single village's water crisis should be able to lend that specific, hard-won knowledge to a conversation happening on the other side of the world — and take something back in return.
This is a wager about how change actually travels. Not top-down, not only bottom-up — but laterally, through relation. Sustainability, culture, technology, governance, education, livelihood — we do not treat these as separate silos. They are the way the world is actually lived, entangled with one another long before any institution arrives to sort them into categories.
None of this makes Shringara a fixed doctrine. It is closer to a standing invitation — for the newcomer and the expert, the policymaker and the artisan, the sceptic and the believer — to think and act together, unafraid of disagreement, genuinely curious about where that openness might lead.
That openness is not a caveat to what Shringara is. It is what Shringara is.
The Gap
We are not short of ideas. What remains unsettled — what remains, in fact, the harder question — is how knowledge becomes practice, and who is trusted to carry it there.
Fragmented Architecture
Research is produced in institutions that may never encounter the communities its findings concern. Policy is written at a distance from the lives it will reshape. Local knowledge — earned through years of proximity to a problem — stays local, even when it holds answers the wider world needs.
Inaccessible Participation
Whether an idea is heard still depends too heavily on geography, education, language, the shape of one's network, and proximity to institutions never built with everyone in mind. A good idea should not require an elite degree or a well-placed introduction to be seen.
Symbolism Without Pathways
We have grown remarkably skilled at gathering people in rooms. We are far less consistent about asking what those rooms leave behind. A panel can spark a conversation. But unless knowledge finds its way into practice, the distance between conversation and change stays exactly where it was.
Missing Connective Tissue
Between knowledge and people. Between people and institutions. Between global ideas and local ground. Between participating and implementing. Between promising work and the resources it needs to survive its own beginning. This is where Shringara locates its purpose.
We do not believe the deepest problem is a shortage of awareness or good intentions. We believe it is an absence of connective infrastructure — and Shringara exists to help build it. Not by replacing institutions already doing this work, but by threading the relationships and shared spaces through which their work can travel further.
What We Are Building Toward
Socially Equitable
A world in which the capacity to shape the future does not depend on where a person was born, which institution they belong to, or how close they happen to stand to existing power.
Ecologically Resilient
Sustainable futures must be more than environmentally sound. They must leave room for continuity and change — for inherited wisdom and untested ideas, for ambition and for restraint, held together rather than pitted against one another.
Locally Accountable
Global conversations must remain answerable to local reality. Young people are not merely being prepared for a future that will arrive regardless — they are trusted, equipped and invited to help build it.
Our ambition is not to generate more conversation. It is to make conversation consequential — to build an ecosystem in which ideas are tested, action is informed by evidence, resources move toward what works, and learning travels back into policy, practice and communities.
Three Connected Purposes
Shringara exists to make meaningful participation in building sustainable futures more accessible, better informed, and more consequential.
Build Understanding
We create accessible spaces for people to meet the questions shaping our collective future — questions too often confined within existing agendas, disciplines and institutions. Through research, education, dialogue and storytelling, we make complexity legible without making it simplistic.
Enable Action
We build openings for people to move from concern into contribution — developing ideas, forming collaborations, testing solutions, and undertaking projects grounded in real, local conditions. Participation should never end at attendance. It should open, always, onto the possibility of doing.
Turn Action into Knowledge
We document what we do. We evaluate it honestly. We learn from it, including from what fails. Where an approach shows genuine promise, we seek the partnerships, evidence and resources needed to strengthen it, replicate it, or carry it into wider policy and practice.
How We Work
Shringara seeks to bring together two things that are too often separated: the rigour of thought and the urgency of action. Our work moves through a continuous cycle.
Knowledge informs action. Action generates evidence. Evidence improves knowledge. And learning travels.
Four Windows into the
Same Future
Our verticals allow us to go deeper without creating silos. They are not separate Shringaras. They are different entry points into the same interconnected pursuit.
Planet & Sustainability
The future of the planet is inseparable from the future of the people who inhabit it. This vertical explores ecological systems, resources and human practices — from climate and biodiversity to water, food systems, energy, urban sustainability and livelihoods. Sustainability here is not treated as environmental awareness alone, but as a lens through which we ask harder questions about how communities live, adapt and thrive.
People, Society & Development
Sustainable futures ultimately depend on whether people have the capabilities and conditions to participate in them. This vertical focuses on the social foundations of development: education, youth, livelihoods, inclusion, health, migration, inequality and access to opportunity. We are interested not only in identifying social problems, but in understanding the systems that produce them — and the solutions already emerging within communities.
Culture, Identity & Expression
The future is not only something we build materially. It is something we inherit, interpret and express. This vertical explores culture as a living force: heritage, identity, language, art, fashion, media, storytelling, traditions, creative economies and the ways people express belonging and difference. Cultural knowledge is knowledge in its own right — and this vertical gives it the serious attention it deserves.
Technology, Governance & Future Systems
The systems shaping tomorrow are being designed today. Artificial intelligence, digital technologies, automation, new forms of governance and shifting geopolitical structures are already transforming how societies function. This vertical explores these transitions through a single unifying question: what kind of future are they creating — and for whom? We move deliberately beyond both technological optimism and technological fear.
The Shringara Ecosystem
Our programmes are the means through which thematic work becomes tangible. Each creates a meaningful pathway between knowledge, people and action.
Shringara Lok
The open community through which people enter the Shringara ecosystem. A space for learning, exchange, local observation and the beginning of participation. Not an audience — the starting point.

Where We Are Going
Shringara begins as a platform. We do not intend for it to remain one. Our ambition is to grow into a globally connected, locally grounded think-and-do institution.
A Body of Knowledge
Through research, publications, archives, field studies and collaborations, we want to build a growing intellectual record around the questions shaping sustainable futures — one that outlasts any individual programme or cohort.
A Generation of Contributors
Through Shringara Lok, fellowships and learning programmes, we want to develop people who are not only informed about the world's challenges, but capable of researching, questioning, building and acting upon them.
A Portfolio of Demonstrated Work
We want to build projects whose value is established through experience and evidence — work that can be strengthened, adapted and, where appropriate, taken to other places and other contexts.
A Bridge Between Policy and Practice
We want to contribute to policymaking not only by producing recommendations, but by understanding what happens when ideas encounter reality — researching policy, contributing to its design, and bringing evidence back into the conversation.
We are less interested in how quickly Shringara becomes large than in whether it becomes useful, trusted and capable of lasting. The ambition is not growth for its own sake — it is to build an institution whose work can travel further than its founders.
We began Shringara with a simple unease. There is no shortage of ideas in the world. There are people studying difficult questions, communities solving problems with limited resources, young people trying to find ways into conversations that affect their lives, and institutions working quietly on questions that deserve to travel much further.
And yet, too much of that work remains disconnected. A good idea can remain small because it never finds the right person. A useful piece of research can remain unread outside the institution that produced it. A local solution can remain invisible because no one thought to document it. A young person can care deeply about a problem and still have no clear pathway from that concern to meaningful contribution.
We wanted to build something around that gap. Not another organisation that measures its relevance by the number of events it hosts or the logos on its partner page — but something that asks a harder question: what becomes possible because Shringara exists?
Perhaps someone learns about an issue they had never encountered before. Perhaps someone discovers that the problem they thought was uniquely theirs is being experienced elsewhere too. Perhaps a local observation becomes a research question. Perhaps a conversation becomes a collaboration. Perhaps a small experiment produces evidence that helps improve a policy.
These possibilities are why we are building Shringara. We believe education matters deeply. We want people who are willing to read, research, learn from expertise and change their minds when the evidence asks them to. But we also believe that knowledge becomes more valuable when it stays connected to the realities from which questions emerge.
That is why Shringara will always be a little restless. We do not want to become fixed around one framework, one sector, one generation or one way of knowing. The questions of the future will keep changing. The institution must be capable of changing with them without losing its centre.
